Overweight is a symptom that something is not right with your diet. The number one culprit is sugar.

Every diet that is out there has one thing in common…cut out refined sugar. Sugar packs on the pounds.

Sugar causes insulin to spike and insulin tells your body to store fat. This is an over simplification of a complicated process but makes the connection easy to understand.

Diets can be overwhelming with all the lists of yes and no foods. The goal here is to keep it simple. Plus we will be dropping the word diet from our vocabulary since this will become a lifestyle.

Let’s also leave labels out of the equation for now. Just focus on one goal…unsweeten your life. Don’t worry if this is Keto, Paleo or low carb. It doesn’t matter what we call it. The beauty is that as we go along you will get to define it for yourself!

Start to Unsweeten

Get off the sugar merry go round. When you consume sugar, insulin increases to clean the glucose up. The insulin does a great job and before you know it your blood sugar is lower than when you started. Now you are crashing. Tired and hungry, you go grab something sweet for a quick fix. Then the cycle repeats again and again.

“I can’t imagine not ever eating sugar again!” If this is the first thought that popped into your head, you are not alone. The very nature of the vicious cycle described above keeps the cravings alive and well. Once you step off the merry go round, you will find that hunger and cravings are a completely different experience.

Let’s start small.

Cut out all fruit juice

Wait! What?

Juice is healthy, right? It is on every commercial touting breakfast foods. I am sure that it was on your breakfast table growing up too.

The food companies have done a great job making us believe it is a healthy way to start off your day. Fruit juice is sugar plain and simple. Unlike eating an entire orange or apple that contains fiber and requires you to chew, fruit is pressed down to liquid sugar and is super easy to over consume.

Cut out soda and energy drinks

One of my friend’s stopped drinking soda. She lost 25 pounds over the course of 2 months with this one simple change. Notice I said simple not easy.

Change is never easy but if you change nothing, nothing will change.
